Size Triumph!

Ok so last year I lost weight--about 50lb. And I went from a size 24 to a size 16. I was looking really good. And then I broke my ankle--well, I sprained the ankle badly, tore 3 tendons, and fractured the top of my foot. I was unable to walk for a month and this happend 6.5 months ago and my ankle STILL hurts a lot. I know I know the doctor said it would take over a year to heal and I still might not ever get my range of motion back or be able to wear as high heels as I used to (4-5 inch stilettos). Right now a 2" wedge hurts after an hour. Exercising is hard. So yes, I gained back almost all the weight and got right back up to a size 22. It was devastating. All that hard work.

But about a month ago I started dieting again, and now that I've graduated from undergrad I'm exercising a bit more and guess what--

I am fitting into 18's!!!! I am ecstatic. I was a little skeptical when I fit into k-mart jeans that were 18's. I thought--well, its just one pair. They're probably loaded with stretch. I won't be able to fit into a different brand. Until today I was at Kohl's, and saw this gorgeous pair of dark brown denim with black leopard spots all over. Absolutely amazing. They were on day-after-christmas sale so I tried them on and they freaking fit! Size 18! I wore them today. I was so happy. I'll edit in a picture this week to show you my outfit that I wore to work today with them.

So so so so happy.

I can't quite fit into size 18 dress trousers yet--but as a seamstress I know that dress pants are often made with zero stretch and they're also cut smaller for a better fit.
But that's O.K. because I mostly wear jeans anyway. I only wear trousers every once in a while.

Aside from that, my boss and I are trying this new pattern for pants which will be trousers. I'm going to use a nice wool blend that's a very pretty brown and black herringbone print... if I have enough fabric. We'll see after the muslins. (Muslins are mock ups made out a cotton based fabric known as muslin. Its very inexpensive so its a good way to test your pattern before you start cutting your final-product fabric.

In other news, tomorrow or Friday I am going to start work on a trumpet skirt!
I want to make a nice one in wool, but first I'm going to make one in inexpensive dark purple knit I have, so I can get used to the idea. Also, I just avoid zippers because I hate them. I can do them on zippered pencil cases but otherwise I just kind of suck at them.
Which is why I really shouldn't avoid them. I should practice on them. With muslin. But I never want to just practice. I like to make things I can wear. But the zipper is how I usually screw them up.

Learn from my mistakes. Go tackle zippers if they're hard for you. Or darts, if that's what you hate.

Or if you don't know how to sew, try that! I highly recommend it :)

What was the point of this post again?
